So, here we go again. Another top model is being bashed by the media for being 'too thin.'
This time, it's 18 year old Codie Young, who has done runway shows for Chanel, Calvin Klein, Marni and Marc Jacobs. Codie appeared in this advertisement for British clothing giant 'TopShop' and was immediately labeled by media as "a danger to anorexics."
Now of course, no one can deny this girl is skinny. This particular ad especially makes Codie look very thin. What I have an issue with, though, is Codie being accused of having an eating disorder just because she's thin.
"The girl looks ill. She's probably wearing sunglasses because her eyes are sunken," said Karen Eastall from a British anorexia support group in the Daily Mail. She told the paper that "Topshop needed to use healthy models."
Here's some news for you Mrs. Eastall: not every skinny person is unhealthy!
Some people are naturally thin, and don't gain weight - no matter what they eat.
Just looking at a picture and assuming a person is starving themselves to death is quite a horrible accusation. Anorexia is a very serious mental and physical condition that should not be thrown around in the media the way it is today.
Codie responded on her blog saying: "Why should I be accused of something so awful as being anorexic when I'm most definitely not."
"This is very hurtful to me as I am naturally skinny. Anyone who knows me would know that I have been naturally skinny my entire life."
There you go, Codie! Keep your chin up.
Just because you're a rare type of beauty - does not give anyone the right to put you down. Be healthy, happy, and celebrate your beauty!
